Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to Common Questions About Toy Appraisals, Buying, and Selling Vintage Collectibles in St. Louis, MO

Our FAQs
What kinds of toys does Vintage Toy Authority buy?
We specialize in pre-1990s vintage and antique toys and collectibles, including electric toy trains, tin robots, pressed steel vehicles, vintage Disney toys, character dolls, boxed collectibles, vintage Christmas items, and more. We also actively seek out highly collectible toys from the 1980s. If you're unsure whether your item qualifies, just reach out — we're happy to take a look.
Are there any toys you do not buy?
Yes. We do not purchase Cabbage Patch Dolls, Beanie Babies, or new Porcelain Dolls. Outside of those exceptions, if you have a pre-1990s toy or collectible you'd like appraised, we encourage you to contact us.
How much does an appraisal cost?
Nothing. All appraisals at Vintage Toy Authority are completely free of charge — whether you have a single item or an entire collection. There are no hidden fees and no obligation to sell.
Where do appraisals take place?
We offer flexible appraisal locations to make the process as convenient as possible for you. Appraisals can be conducted in the comfort of your home or at a public location — whatever you're most comfortable with.
How does Vintage Toy Authority determine what my toys are worth?
Owner Doug Feldman has over 40 years of experience collecting and appraising vintage toys and antiques. He evaluates each item based on its type, condition, rarity, and current market value. His deep knowledge of both classic antique collectibles and today's trending collectibles — including 1980s toys — ensures you receive an accurate, up-to-date valuation.
Why should I sell to Vintage Toy Authority instead of a dealer or resale shop?
Because we are collectors first, not resellers. Most dealers are focused on buying low and selling high. Doug acquires items for his own personal collection, which means he has a genuine interest in what he buys — and is consistently able to offer more than traditional dealers and resellers. You'll always receive an honest, fair offer.
How will I be paid?
Vintage Toy Authority pays cash on the spot for all qualifying purchases. There's no waiting, no checks to clear, and no complicated payment process.
Can you appraise a single item, or do I need a full collection?
Both. We welcome single items and full collections alike. Whether you've found one interesting piece in an attic or you're looking to sell everything at once, we'll give every item the same honest attention and fair evaluation.
What if I just want to know what something is worth, but I'm not ready to sell?
That's completely fine. There is never any pressure to sell at Vintage Toy Authority. Many people come to us simply to understand the value of what they own — and we're happy to help with that at no cost.
